Visitors can gain a first-hand experience of what goes into the training of an elite athlete. There are opportunities to view training sessions of the nation’s top gymnasts, swimmers, cyclists and other sports. The institute is world renowned for its training techniques in developing high performing sportspeople.

Visitor tours are available four times daily and are led by some of the country’s best athletes currently in training. Tours take 90 minutes are give plenty of opportunity to have any questions answered by a person who has direct knowledge and experience.

The Institute covers 65 hectares of world class facilities including indoor swimming, gymnastics hall, hockey and soccer fields, a sports science complex and biomechanics dome. There are over 70 coaches employed at the AIS to train and prepare the athletes and help them achieve their goals.

The Centre is on Leverrier Street, Bruce, ACT which is about 7 km from the centre of Canberra. All tours depart from the Visitor Centre. You can buy AIS branded clothing and products from the onsite shop and relax with a coffee in the café.

TheInstitute’s opening hours are from 8:30 am until 5 pm and it is closed on public holidays. Admission prices cover the range for adults, children, seniors, students and family entry. Plenty of parking is available and public transport provides easy access.
